HILMA AF KLINT CENTER FOR NOTEBOOKS
LOCATION MUNSÖ, EKERÖ
STUDIO KTH
YEAR 2021
Hilma af Klint entrusted her work to future generations because she believed in the spiritual development of humanity. She believed that we, as a future generation, would be better able to understand the spiritual messages her paintings conveyed. Perhaps spiritual development has not quite reached the level Hilma had hoped for, and in order for us to understand her art (beyond merely abstract works), we must be familiar with her working methods, learn about various spiritual symbols, and engage with relevant literature.
All of this information can be found in Hilma's notebooks—they are the key to her paintings. The HaK Center for Notebooks is therefore a place that provides time, space, and tools to try to understand the meaning behind her works. Visitors create their own key by filling out their own notebook. This notebook can then be used during exhibitions of her paintings to try to interpret and understand her work.
